THE CITY CENTER OF WOLFACH
The castle, which is also one of the largest castles in Central Baden with a length of 110 meters, is absolutely worth seeing and is a defining feature of the city center. The imposing building is now space for several authorities, a small chapel and the rafting and local history museum. The town hall of Wolfach is also an absolute eye-catcher with its facade, decorated by Eduard Trautwein. By the way, the lower part of the town hall houses the tourist information office, which is of course at your disposal for further information about the Black Forest town. Furthermore, there are many small stores and cafes in Wolfach, which are always well visited places for tourists.
GLASS FROM DOROTHEENHÜTTE WOLFACH
The Dorotheenhütte in Wolfach is really worth a trip! It is the last active mouth blowing hut in the Black Forest. At the Dorotheenhütte, you can still look over the shoulders of the glassmakers and glass cutters – and it’s the Dorotheenhütte that makes it possible to get into the Christmas spirit a bit, even in the middle of summer. You are also welcome to try your hand at glassblowing and blow your own glass vase, for example.
In addition to the Mouthblown Glassworks, there is also a Glass Museum, the Glass Country, a Glass Shop, a Christmas Village, and a Restaurant & Cafe. Take a look at the engraving room and stroll through the large glass land with numerous decoration and gift ideas.
CHURCHES AND CHAPELS
In Wolfach itself and also in the surrounding region there are several churches and chapels to admire. Here are a few suggestions for your vacation:
Sankt Roman pilgrimage church: From the Naturparkhotel Adler you have a beautiful view of the church. It is embedded in the small village of Sankt Roman and is freely accessible to visitors.
Chapel of St. James: The small chapel is a place for all pilgrims walking along the Way of St. James every year on July 25. There is food, drink and pilgrims receive a pilgrim stamp here.
Castle chapel: The chapel in the castle has already experienced quite a bit. In the post-war years, it served, among other things, as a prisoner camp, a stable or even a slaughterhouse. Today, nothing can be seen of the hardships of that time. It is very popular and many people choose the castle chapel as a place for their wedding ceremony.
RAFTSMAN AND HOME MUSEUM
In the museum in the castle of Wolfach you can get an accurate picture of Wolfach. There is various information about the history of the town and also a very old model showing the layout of the town in 1560.
In addition, there is the rafting museum in a separate part. Rafting is a very old profession and has also contributed to the prosperity of the town. At that time the raftsmen transported the cut wood from the region by means of waterways. The exhibition shows the technique of rafting and of course old tools and souvenirs of the rafters. The museum is open Tuesdays, Thursdays, Saturdays and Sundays from 2 to 5 p.m. each day. Here you can find more information of the museum in Wolfach Castle.
